Bring the whole family to an exciting robotics competition where all of the competitors are kids – you’ll be amazed at what they (and their robots) can do. The official 2013 Western North Carolina FIRST® LEGO® League Robotics Tournament will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013, with public viewing from noon-5 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Conference Hall at Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, NC. This event is jointly hosted by the Robotics Opportunities Committee of Western NC and the Blue Ridge Community College. Admission is free.
Twenty-four teams from western North Carolina will compete in a series of robotics challenges and present their research on this year’s theme: Nature’s Fury. Each team is made up of 9-14 year olds in elementary or middle school.
According to event organizer, Neil Rosenberg, “FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) introduces young people to the fun and excitement of science and technology while building self-confidence, knowledge, and valuable employment and life skills. FLL challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers.”
FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) encourages children to design, construct, and program their own intelligent inventions. This allows them not only to understand technology, but to become masters of it. Alongside adult Mentors, FLL teams solve problems using engineering concepts, presentation techniques, and robots.
