4-H Educational Scholarships Available

We are pleased to announce that through the North Carolina 4-H Development and the support of 4-H Donors, we will have the opportunity to award educational scholarships for outstanding 4-H members in North Carolina.  A complete list of scholarships, including detailed information on each is included in the 2011 4-H Scholarship Guidelines which can be found .  COMPLETE applications with ALL supplemental materials must be submitted to the Buncombe County Extension Office no later than Friday, January 25, 2013.  We will make sure all applications are complete, make the necessary copies to be shipped, and electronically submit the applications

Recipients awarded NC 4-H Academic Scholarships will have an outstanding record of 4-H participation and achievement.  Additionally, recipients will possess an excellent high school record of academic achievement measured chiefly by their performance on solid secondary school courses including English, mathematics, physical sciences and social sciences.  Also, recipients will demonstrate an aptitude for college work which will be measured by their performance on college entrance examinations including the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and American College Testing (ACT).

Applicants will be judged on the following basis:  one-half (1/2) 4-H record, one-fourth (1/4) scholastic achievement and one-fourth (1/4) college aptitude.

The following constitutes a completed NC 4-H Scholarship Application:

  1. NC 4-H Scholarship Application Form
  2. Photograph of the applicant
  3. Official High School Transcript
  4. Scholastic aptitude test scores (SAT or ACT)
  5. Letter of recommendation
  6. Applicant’s current resume
  7. Essay (required for NC 4-H Horse Program scholarships)
  8. Financial need statement (optional, confidential)

Please Note: All NC 4-H Scholarships are paid directly to a college or university and will not be made payable to a 4-H’er nor his/her parents.  Recipients must be registered as full-time students.  Award winners are required to attend the 4-H Scholarship and Awards Luncheon during NC 4-H Congress to receive their scholarship(s).
