WNC FIRST Lego Robotics Competition- November 3rd at UNCA

On Saturday, November 3, 2012 the Robotics Opportunities Committee of WNC is hosting the annual 2012 Asheville FIRST Lego League Robotics Tournament.  This event is to take place at UNCA at the Sherrill Athletics Center.  Twenty-four teams from Western NC will be competing with their robots to qualify to attend the state competition in January.  Teams are judged on a team project, core values, robot programming, and more.  This year’s theme is “Senior Solutions” and teams will be programming their robots and designing a product to help senior citizens with daily tasks that may be more challenging with age.

The public is invited to come out and watch the competitions and cheer on our local teams, including our Buncombe County 4-H Robots R Us team.

In addition, the event coordinators are still in need of judges and volunteers.  They are looking for 2-3 adult volunteers to judge Core Values (team dynamics) and also a judge for the project presentation.  Judges are needed at the event between 6:30 am and 3:30 pm.  If you are interested in serving as a judge or know someone who is, please contact John Schnautz at bearberry@charter.net.  No experience or technical knowledge of robots is needed to serve as a judge.  Training will be provided.
