2012 Garden in a Glove at the Asheville City Market

On Saturday, June 16th Buncombe County 4-H partnered with Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) to provide support for the “Kids Corner Market” at the Asheville City Market.   This is the second year that 4-H and ASAP have partnered for this event.   The “Kids Corner Market” serves hundreds of children and families during the summer by helping to promote local farms.  Buncombe County 4-H hosted the “Garden in a Glove” activity where children and parents planted a vegetable garden consisting of swiss chard, spinach, beets, carrots, and snow peas in a glove.

In addition to planting their “Garden in a Glove”, families also learned about the Buncombe County Cooperative Extension Service and opportunities to become involved with 4-H.  We want to thank ASAP for inviting our 4-H program to be involved in this event and hope to do it again next summer!

We want to thank the Horse Spirits 4-H Club and Clever Clovers 4-H Club for volunteering to teach the activity to visiting youth.  You all did a GREAT job!!
