Buncombe County’s NEW 4-H Robotics Program

4-H members in Buncombe County were recently introduced to the world of Robots at a 2-day workshop which was held at the Buncombe County Extension office.  Nine youth, between the ages of 11 and 15, took part in the workshop where they learned the basics of robot programming using Scribbler robots.  These 4-H members learned how to use a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to program their robots to maneuver through challenge courses, follow lines, draw shapes, and even dance to music.

Mr. Neil Rosenberg, instructor for the class, challenged the participants to use their minds to solve problems related to the robot programming.  It’s amazing to see what these 4-H members were able to program their robots to do when the problem solving was left up to them!!

As a result of the workshop and the excitement of the 4-H members, Buncombe County 4-H is in the process of forming teams for the FIRST Lego League tournament season.  If you are interested in being on a team and would like more information, please contact Holly Jordan at holly_jordan@ncsu.edu.  Teams are forming NOW and must be registered SOON!

Although you may have missed out on the opportunity to attend our first Robotics, workshop, we are planning to add more throughout the year.  Please make sure to visit the blog for updates and announcements for future workshops and Robotics opportunities offered through Buncombe County 4-H.  You won’t want to miss out on the fun!!
