2011 4-H Sunflower Contest

We are happy to announce that the Asheville Men’s Garden Club is once again sponsoring the 4-H Sunflower Contest! Mike Stevenson has delivered Sunflower seed packets to the Buncombe County Extension office and they are ready to be picked up by our 4-H members who are interested in growing them.   Anyone interesting in receiving free sunflower seeds to participate in the contest should contact Holly Jordan at holly_jordan@ncsu.edu to set up a time to pick up your seed packets.  The seeds will be distributed on a first come-first serve basis.  The last day to pick up your seeds will be Friday, June 17th.

The actual sunflower contest will take place in late August (prior to the Mountain State Fair).  Participants  should select their largest sunflower head to enter into the contest.  The sunflowers will be judged by a representative of the Asheville Men’s Garden Club and awards will be posted on the 4-H blog. Please feel free to contact the Holly Jordan at (828) 255-5522 if you have any questions about this opportunity.
