North Carolina 4-H offers a fantastic opportunity for teen 4-H members to learn about their state and local governments through Citizenship NC Focus. This event will take place Monday, June 13 – Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Sheraton Downtown hotel and at Legislative Offices in Raleigh, NC. Only 100-170 North Carolina 4-H youth between the ages of 14 and 19 will be selected to attend. This opportunity is open to new 4-H members as well as those who may have participated previously.
Now What Is This All About?
Hands-on workshops, panel discussions, distinguished speakers, and open discussion will help you discover how government impacts your everyday life, and how you can impact government in return. You will learn about state government, learn about working with public officials, hear from prominent North Carolina officials, and visit legislators.
Before the conference, you will gather key information about youth issues, local government, and community needs in your county. At the conference, you’ll put this information together with your new knowledge to create a community-based citizenship action plan to implement after you return home.
What Does It Cost?
Registration fees are $150.00 per person (youth and adult), including 2 nights lodging and meals during the conference. (Donors and other funding sources cover the remaining cost.) Transportation is the responsibility of participants and/or participating counties.
