The Spring 2011 4-H Shooting Sports Workshop will take place April 8-10, 2011 at the Millstone 4-H Camp in Ellerbe, NC.
Since the fall of 2002 over 475 adult volunteers have been trained through North Carolina 4-H to work with our youth in 4-H Target Shooting Sports Programs. These volunteers and professionals have been trained by instructors who have completed a week long training workshop and are now nationally certified 4- H Shooting Sports instructors. This workshop is designed to equip adult volunteers to work with youth in 4-H Shooting Sports Clubs. Participants will have the opportunity to share ideas and information while enhancing their skills in teaching youth through the use of the National 4-H Shooting Sports curriculum. **Please note: In order for a 4-H club to be involved in the shooting sports project, a 4-H shooting sports trained 4-H volunteer must coordinate the project.**
A total of 75 participants will be accepted for the workshop – no more than 15 in each of the following disciplines:
- muzzle loading
Participants are being asked to pay a $75 fee to help offset some of the cost for the workshop. All participants must be registered with their local Extension office as 4-H volunteers prior to attending the workshop.
This is a hands on workshop, participants will be required to pass a written test in their discipline and required to teach portions of their curriculum as part of a practicum test. Participants should be familiar with the shooting disciplines they choose; we will not be teaching participants to shoot but rather how to use shooting sports as a youth development tool.
Participants will be selected at the state level using a registration screening process. Completed applications must be at the Millstone 4-H Camp office by March 18,2011. Please click on the links below to download the informational letter and the training application.
