This past weekend, 4-Hers from Buncombe County met early in the morning to set off on an adventure to North Carolina 4-H’s Teen Leadership Focus Conference at the Betsy Jeff Penn 4-H Camping Center in Reidsville. Seth Austin, Madison Baldwin, Carter Brown, and Holly Jordan (4-H Agent) loaded up into the state van at 5:30 a.m. and set out on their way to the conference.
Teen Leadership Focus Conference (also known as State Council Conference) is an opportunity for teen 4-H members from around the state to meet and learn how to be effective leaders through 4-H. The Buncombe County delegation took part in classes required for the Bronze level of the North Carolina 4-H Ambassador Program. These classes included public speaking, parliamentary procedure, etiquette, and 4-H history. Each 4-Her was provided their Ambassador notebook and instructions for completing the requirements for each level of the Ambassador program.
Hopefully Buncombe County will have 3 new Bronze level Ambassadors by late spring who will be prepared to talk to the public, government officials, and stakeholders about the great things 4-H has to offer. These new Ambassadors will also be recognized at 4-H Congress in July. Ambassador trainings are offered throughout the year at various 4-H events. If you are 14 years or older and would like to get more information about the North Carolina 4-H Ambassador program, please contact Holly Jordan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
