Many thanks to those 4-H’ers, Parents and Leaders who came out to the Asheville Rec Park this past Thursday the 12th. We had over 40 folks in attendance and enjoyed recognizing those Buncombe County 4-H’ers who have been involved in lots of competitions over this past summer. In true picnic spirit, we enjoyed pasta salad, chips, potato salad, pizza, veggies, cookies and cakes while recounting our achievements in Project Record Books, District Activity Day, Presentation Competition, 4-H Summer Camp, Livestock Judging, Horticulture Judging, 4-H Congress, and Mini-Garden Projects. We also had the chance to welcome new 4-H Agent Mrs. Holly Jordan into the Buncombe County 4-H Family, and get to know her a little better.
At the picnic we discussed the Buncombe County 4-H exhibit at the Mountain State Fair. Mrs. Holly will contact the fair to see if there is still space available for a booth or if we might have to wait until next year. She will send information out to the clubs and post on the blog with additional information when it becomes available.
During the Picnic, we also discussed the date for the next County Council Meeting. The previous date, October 21st will not work for most folks, so the new date is now Thursday, October 28th at 6:30 p.m. This is an especially important County Council Meeting because new officer elections will be held! We hope that many of you will consider being a part of the County Council this upcoming year and look forward to hearing your input. Mrs. Holly will send out information about the officer elections soon, so be on the lookout!
We are still waiting on information about the Sunflower Contest. We have been told that the seeds given out this year were ornamentals and not the LARGE sunflower seeds that we normally use. While this may put a damper on entries for the NC Mountain State Fair’s Largest Sunflower Head Contest, we are still looking into other options for our 4-H Contest here at the office. We will be sure to let you know as soon as we know anything!
Thanks again to everyone who came out for the County Council Potluck Picnic. We all had a fantastic time!
