Attention 4-H Horse Clubs:

2009 is quickly coming to an end and 2010 is almost here, which means that Horse Bowl and Hippology are right around the corner!

For the 2010 NC State 4-H Horse Bowl Contest, each county will be submitting 35 questions to EHH.  The questions are to be from the current reference list and must be e-mailed to Erin Bonito no later than Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009. Questions should come from the official sources only and must include the reference and page number. Each question’s reference must be documented correctly or the question will be thrown out.

The current references are listed on the NC Extension Horse Husbandry Website. Specific references are to be used for questions at the district and state level for the Junior Horse Bowl Division and the Mixed and Senior Divisions. Please note the questions submitted should be from as many of our listed resources as possible. In addition, questions submitted should be written for the Junior Division (using Junior Resources) and for the Mixed and Senior Division (using Mixed and Senior Resources).

Please try to make your questions innovative and interesting and your answers accurate and complete. Please don’t merely record questions word for word directly from the references! Try to put the “key word” of the question towards the end, and no true/false questions please. Also, feel free to refer to the NC 4-H Horse Program Rules and Regulations Manual, specifically in section ‘VI-A.5. Sources of Questions’, for a list of categories in which questions should come from.

If your club is interested in submitting questions or going to the contest, email your responses to Erin Bonito (erin_bonito@ncsu.edu).  Please feel free to submit as many questions as you’d like.  If you have any questions, please check the NC Extension Horse Husbandry Website, or call Mike Ford here at the Buncombe County Office.
