WOW! Results are in for the 2009 NC Mountain State Fair!

1It’s hard to believe that the 2009 NC Mountain State Fair was only ten days long!  With close to 200,000 people in attendance, and all of the food vendors, clogging, music concerts, amusement rides and games, pig races, petting zoos, camel rides, animal displays, vendors, and craft demonstrations, it’s even harder to believe that our Buncombe 4-H’ers even had the time to enter any of the exhibits, competitions or livestock championships!

And…. It turns out that many of you did enter in multiple categories and placed!  Congratulations to everyone who participated – we are very proud of you all!  Mr. Mike was even able to get the 4-H Secretary, Erin out of the office for a few hours to go over to the Fair to see all of your accomplishments.  VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!

3

Thank you to Rachel Winebarger who oversaw the Buncombe County portion of the West District 4-H Exhibit.  Our task was to find a Beanie Baby-sized stuffed animal that best represented Buncombe County 4-H’ers.  Rachel chose a bear in overalls riding a tractor, and it was added to all of the other animals representing different counties in the West District 4-H Exhibit at the Fair.

Congratulations! In the Community Club Youth Group Division, the West District 4-H Exhibit won 1st place, and the Newfound 4-H Club Exhibit won 2nd place!   There are some more pictures of Newfound’s exhibit below!

There were 4,047 entries in the livestock judging competitions – many of which were Buncombe 4-H’ers!  The judges were looking for showmanship skills, knowledge and proper animal handling, as well as the general appearance of the animals, their mammary systems, their dairy characteristics, their body size, their ability to consume food and their willingness to milk.  Congratulations to all of our 4-H’ers who participated in the livestock judging competitions – the list of winners is below!
