Information About the North Carolina State Fair

ScheduleCoverThe North Carolina State Fair is fast approaching us!  Below are some important events and activities that will be going on during that week, as well as a reminder of the entry deadlines.

The Fair dates are October 15-25, 2009. The State Fair theme is: “A Whole Lotta Happy”. You can find the NC State Fair Website here All entry forms are due September 25, 2009, so please go online or look in your State Fair Catalog for the forms. Late entries will not be accepted – pre-registration is required by this date.   Also , please note that on page 225 you can find the dates that registered 4-H items can be brought.  October 7th-12th are the dates they will be open for delivery.  They will close at 5:00 pm on the 12th.

We are pleased to announce a new category this year to celebrate NC 4-H’s Centennial. We are offering a 4-H Cake Decorating Contest for our 4-H Youth. See page 230 of the handbook for this competition.  The State Fair is partnering with us this year to help celebrate our 100th Birthday.  Please be sure to review the activities below.  We hope that you will help us celebrate our Centennial at the NC State Fair!
October 16 – Opening Ceremony. The State 4-H Officers will participate in the Opening Ceremony for the State Fair on Friday morning.
October 19 – Youth Celebration Day at the Fair. Please plan on wearing your 4-H shirts and come to help us celebrate 4-H. More information will be sent to outline specific events during this day. We are looking to take a picture of all 4-H’ers -past and present who are in attendance to gather late afternoon early evening for a picture near the Dorton Arena.

We have worked with Farm Bureau and they have placed the 4-H Clover, along with their Farm Bureau Logo, on all of the trash can liners that wrap each trash can at the fair. So, you will see the clover all over!

We will have the 4-H Banner that is on the NCDA&CS Food Distribution Trucks on display with the 4-H Clover.
We will be featuring a 4-H PSA during the entire week of the fair. It will be broadcast over the Fair Sound System all during the week.
Campfire Delight – the 4-H Ice Cream will also be sold all during the week.
4-H exhibits, crafts and cakes will be on display all week in the Educational Building.
