On Tuesday, July 21st, after weeks of preparation, hundreds of youth from across the state competed in the statewide 4-H Presentation Competition in Raleigh. Youth presented in three age divisions: 9-10, 11-13 and 14-18. They competed in over thirty categories including Safety, Interior Design and Home Space, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Livestock and Dairy Production and Health and Fitness. Most categories allowed for props and posters to be used as a demonstration.
Some of this year’s judges were specialists from Duke and NC State Universities. They were very impressed with this year’s competition and the challenging topics that youth chose. Among the Gold Medal winners from Buncombe County were Jenna Cagle of Sandy Mush 4-H Club, Rachel Winebarger of Growing Branches 4-H Club, Laura Nelon of Newfound 4-H Club and Kelsi Cartwright of Newfound 4-H Club. Jordan McAninch of Sandy Mush 4-H, Carter Brown of Newfound 4-H and Madison Brown of Newfound 4-H also received a Silver Medal. Congratulations to all of our 4-H’ers who participated – We are very proud of you!
